President Obama announced on November 15, 2013 that individuals and small businesses whose coverage is being cancelled due to not meeting the new minimum standards set forth by the Affordable Care Act may keep those policies for another year.
In response to significant pressure from millions of Americans who received notices of cancellation, the President implemented this brief reprieve. This means that health insurance issuers may choose to continue coverage that otherwise would be terminated due to non-compliance with the Affordable Care Act’s reforms. This reprieve is only applicable to affect individual policies and small business policies.
However, it is up to the carrier whether they want to continue these non-compliant policies into 2014 (that were due to terminate 12/31/2013).
You must check with your carrier to see what course they’re taking.
